Chemical Management, the Circular Economy and Precious Metals Event

On the 5th of December , 2018 will take place the “Conflict and Opportunity: Chemical Management, The Circular Economy and Precious Metals event” organised by the European Precious Metals Federation (EPMF) in Brussels. This event will focus on the benefits of recycling and greater sustainability but also on the opportunities and conflicts for precious metals use and reuse in the context of EU REACH and the Circular Economy.

In June 2018, REACHLaw was contracted by Eurometaux to conduct a study to apply a critical legal review of the paper adopted by the Competent Authorities for REACH & CLP (CARACAL) at the end of 2017. This paper describes a wide interpretation of the REACH authorisation scope for materials that contain substances on the Annex XIV.
Our colleague Tim Becker has been invited to share, during this event, the outcome of the legal study that applies a critical legal review of the CARACAL paper as part of the legal investigation to clarify the status of substances* in substances (“SiS”) or mixtures (SiM) from the perspective of authorisation in case the substance* is listed on Annex XIV, and to clarify whether the two options of wider Annex XIV entries raised are valid. This study is prepared with a view to the metals sector.
