After a long wait, finally things are moving forward with UK REACH. On 16 May 2024, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in the UK launched its public consultation on the Alternative Transitional Registration model (ATRm) for UK REACH along with other proposals for improving the UK REACH regime.

The Public consultation will run for 8 weeks and is available at https://consult.defra.gov.uk/reach-policy/atrm-consultation/

The deadline for receiving comments is 11 July 2024.

This webinar hosted by REACHLaw will go through and focus on the latest developments around the Alternative Transitional Registration model (ATRm) and its related public consultation. The aim of the ATRm is the reduction of the estimated £2 billion costs by an estimated 70% the GB chemical industry might have faced under the transition from EU REACH to UK REACH. This is done through a simplification of the registration process by significantly reducing the hazard information needed for registration of substances subject to grandfathering, NRES and DUIN (“existing substances”). Full hazard information requirements as per current UK REACH legal text will continue to apply to registrations of new substances. Furthermore, hazard requirements in Chemical Safety Reports (CSR) will also be reduced. However, a greater focus on use and exposure information will in turn increase the requirements for collecting related information from the supply chain.

If your business places chemical substances on the GB market subject to UK REACH registration requirement, we invite you to joint this webinar on Tuesday 28 May 2024 where you will also have the option to ask questions.

Topics covered in the webinar:

  1. UK REACH and the Current Status (in brief only)
  2. Overview of the Public Consultation
  3. Review of the ATRm
  4. Practical implication of the ATRm
  5. Conclusions
  6. Questions & Answers
